Seed Stage Venture Capital Firms: 5 Funds Opening in October 2026, Ranked by Amount
Seed stage venture capital firms write the first institutional cheque into a company, often before it has much revenue. This list ranks five seed stage firms that announced or filed new vehicles between late September and October 23, 2026, ordered by amount. We kept only firms whose stage focus we could confirm. Where an amount comes from an announcement and not a filing, we say so.
How to Read the Ranking
A filing shows that a vehicle exists and how much it reports as sold. It does not show a final close or a target. An announced fund is a firm's own statement. Check each firm's site before you pitch, since check sizes and stage focus vary by source.
1. Pear VC: $333 Million Fund V
Pear VC announced a $333 million Fund V on October 14, 2026, according to Tech Funding News and RuntimeWire. The firm manages more than $1.1 billion and focuses on pre-seed and seed. The general partners named in the coverage are Afrakhteh, Kamat and Reddy. It is the largest dedicated pre-seed and seed fund on this list. It suits founders who are early enough that a first institutional cheque matters more than a large check size.
2. Preface Ventures: $113.1 Million Across Fund IV and IV-A
Preface Ventures filed Fund IV and a parallel IV-A vehicle on September 30, with a combined $113.1 million. The firm was founded around 2020 by Farooq Abbasi, who trained at Costanoa and DN Capital, and focuses on enterprise software and applied AI built by repeat founders. Sources disagree on stage and check size, but the most reliable picture is pre-seed and seed with some Series A participation, with first checks roughly between $750,000 and $2 million. Founding year also varies by source, with 2015, 2016 and 2020 all appearing. It suits experienced founders building enterprise infrastructure.
3. Future Ventures: $78.3 Million Filed for PNT 1
Future Ventures, run by Steve Jurvetson and Maryanna Saenko, filed Future Ventures PNT 1, LLC at $78.3 million on October 6. The firm describes itself as a mission-driven early-stage fund investing in AI, synthetic biology, sustainable transportation and space. It kept a deliberately small team, and TechCrunch reported a $200 million second fund in 2021 and another $200 million fund in 2023. It also raises special-purpose vehicles for capital-intensive companies. The filing does not say what PNT 1 is for, so we cannot confirm whether it is a single-company vehicle. It suits ambitious science and frontier technology founders.
4. Story Ventures: $63.1 Million Filed for Story VP II
Story Ventures, founded in 2016 and run by Jake and Brian Yormak in New York, filed Story VP II, L.P. at $63.1 million on October 6. The firm is a pre-seed and seed investor. It is a fit for founders who want a hands-on lead at the earliest stage.
5. Foster Ventures: $12.2 Million Filed for Fund II
Foster Ventures, founded by Priya Ramachandran, filed Foster Ventures Fund II at $12.15 million on October 23. The firm is an early-stage investor in B2B enterprise software, from pre-seed to Series A, with listed check sizes between $100,000 and $500,000. We found no public source naming the firm's second fund, so the vehicle name rests on the filing. It is the smallest on this list and suits founders who need a smaller first cheque.
What Seed Investors Look For
Seed investors back people and early proof. They want a team that can build, a problem worth solving and a few signs that customers want the product, such as pilots, a waiting list or early revenue. Be clear about what the money will achieve and what will be true when it runs out.
How to Approach Them
Match the firm to your sector and check size, then find a warm introduction through a founder, adviser or lawyer. Keep your first message short: what you build, your proof, and how much you are raising. Choose your instrument with care, since many seed rounds use a SAFE or a convertible note with a valuation cap. Model your dilution and prepare a data room before the first call. Ask whether the firm expects to lead your seed round.
