$18.14B Filed Aug 25: Hedge Funds Take 47.5% as VC Share Slips to 3.1%, Its Lowest Reading Since Aug 19

AngelLinx Intelligence tracked 149 capital vehicles filed on August 25, totalling $18.14 billion across four fund categories. Hedge funds filed 29 vehicles worth $8.61 billion, representing 47.5% of all capital and 19.5% of all vehicles. Other investment funds filed 58 vehicles worth $7.40 billion (40.8% of capital, 38.9% of vehicles). Private equity filed 24 vehicles worth $1.56 billion (8.6% of capital, 16.1% of vehicles). Venture capital filed 38 vehicles worth $562 million, representing 3.1% of capital and 25.5% of all vehicles. All percentages are of 149 total vehicles and $18.14B total capital tracked by AngelLinx Intelligence.

The 149 vehicles and $18.14 billion place August 25 as a heavier session by capital than the prior day, when 95 vehicles filed $14.70 billion. The increase was driven almost entirely by a concentrated cluster of hedge fund and other-investment-fund vehicles from a small number of large managers, a pattern that AngelLinx Intelligence has now tracked across multiple sessions in the August window.

VC at 3.1%: Back Below the Weekly Average

Venture capital's 3.1% capital share on August 25 sits below the August 17-21 weekly average of 3.3% and well below August 24's 7.0% reading, which was the highest single-day VC share tracked in the period. The 38 VC vehicles filed on August 25 is the highest vehicle count of any single day this month, even though the dollar total of $562 million is comparatively modest, underscoring how much of the day's VC activity sat in smaller, deal-by-deal structures rather than large institutional fund closes.

The largest VC vehicle of the day was Kleiner Perkins Select Fund IV Friends, LLC at $111.8 million, followed by Autilus Mekone III LP at $102.8 million and Thrive Capital Partners IX Growth-G, LLC at $100 million. Together these three vehicles account for $314.6 million of the day's $562.1 million in VC capital, or 56.0%. The remaining 35 VC vehicles shared $247.5 million, averaging $7.1 million each, consistent with the dense SPV and smaller-fund layer that has characterised most sessions tracked this month. Hedge Funds and the Schroders Capital Cluster

The dominant story within August 25's hedge fund category is a cluster of 11 vehicles tied to Schroders Capital's securitized products and asset-based finance franchise, with Madiha Maqsood named as key person across all of them. Combined, these 11 vehicles total $6.245 billion, or 34.4% of the entire day's capital, making it one of the largest single-manager filing clusters AngelLinx Intelligence has tracked in the August window, exceeding even Fort Washington Investment Advisors' $3.66 billion five-vehicle cluster from August 24.

Outside the Schroders cluster, Grove Funding VI LLC filed as a standalone vehicle at $2.04 billion, the single largest vehicle of the day after the Schroders cluster's largest individual filing. Richmond Fund LP filed at $1.85 billion, and WMA International ex-US ex-HK Active Extension Onshore Fund LP, tied to Millennium Management founder Israel Englander, filed at $1.06 billion.

Private Equity: Brookfield's Infrastructure Credit Vehicle

On the private equity side, Brookfield Financial Infrastructure Partners L.P. filed at $926.1 million, the largest PE vehicle of the day by a wide margin over the second-largest, NB Crossroads Fund 25 Onshore LP at $274.6 million. Brookfield is one of the world's largest alternative asset managers, and its financial infrastructure strategy targets payment networks, exchanges, and other transaction-processing infrastructure that underpins global capital markets.

What to Watch

VC's slide back to 3.1% after August 24's 7.0% spike confirms that the prior day's reading was a single-session outlier rather than the start of a sustained shift. The consistent pattern across the full August window remains VC in the 3-5% band on most days, punctuated by occasional large single-vehicle closes that push the reading higher.
