Whatnot Raises $545M at $20 Billion Valuation: The Largest Live Commerce Round Ever

Live commerce platform Whatnot has closed a $545 million Series G funding round, setting a new record as the largest single raise in the live shopping industry and pushing its valuation to $20 billion, up from $11.5 billion just ten months ago. The round was led by ICONIQ Growth, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Avra. New investors include Kleiner Perkins, Wellington Management, Robinhood Ventures Fund I, S32, and Standard Capital.

Whatnot operates a live auction platform where sellers broadcast in real time to buyers who can bid, ask questions, and complete purchases without leaving the stream. The platform started with collectibles: trading cards, sneakers, vintage goods, and has since expanded into fashion, electronics, and home goods.

The growth trajectory underpinning this raise is striking. Sellers on Whatnot had already generated more total sales by the midpoint of 2026 than they did during all of 2025. More than 650,000 new users are joining the platform weekly. In a market where many consumer tech platforms are struggling to sustain growth, those numbers are exceptional.

Whatnot plans to use the new capital to build AI-powered tools for sellers: smarter listing optimization to match inventory with the right buyers, deeper business analytics, and workflow integrations that reduce administrative time. The bet is that AI makes the individual seller significantly more productive, which increases supply quality and drives demand.

The platform economics

Whatnot takes a transaction fee on every sale. At the scale implied by these numbers, the unit economics of live commerce are increasingly defensible. Unlike social media, where monetization depends on ads, live commerce monetizes at the point of transaction. The business model scales with seller success, not with time-on-platform.

What this means for founders

Consumer commerce is being rebuilt around real-time social interaction and AI-assisted selling tools. If you are building in e-commerce, creator monetization, or retail tech, Whatnot's raise signals that the live format has crossed from niche to mainstream. The AI layer for individual sellers is still early. That is where the next wave of tooling companies will emerge.
