Kevin P. Mahaffey, co-founder of Lookout Security, has raised $74.9 million for SNR -6 dB, L.P., a venture capital fund filed on August 13, 2026.
The fund name is a direct reference to signal-to-noise ratio, the measure of meaningful signal against background interference in communications engineering. At negative six decibels, the signal is below the noise floor. Applied to venture, the name describes a precise thesis: invest only where the real signal is visible beneath the market noise, not where the category is loud and the signal is unclear.
Mahaffey built Lookout into one of the defining enterprise mobile security companies of the last decade, serving government and financial services customers who cannot afford mobile device compromise. His transition from operator to investor brings a security engineer's training to fund selection: prioritize technical defensibility, not category narrative.
At $74.9 million, SNR -6 dB is positioned between a typical seed fund and a Series A fund in size, which gives Mahaffey the flexibility to lead seed rounds in companies he convicts early or to follow into Series A rounds where he has inside technical knowledge of the problem domain. Cybersecurity and enterprise infrastructure founders building companies with real technical moats rather than compliance-driven features are the natural fit for this fund's thesis.
