Jar Raises Rs 29 Crore From Unitary Fund at a 23% Higher Valuation
Bengaluru-based digital gold savings app Jar has raised Rs 29 crore, roughly $3.3 million, in fresh funding from existing investor Unitary Fund, at a valuation 23% higher than its previous round. The company's board approved the allotment of 1,70,589 Series B2 compulsorily convertible preference shares at an issue price of Rs 1,700 per share, taking Jar's post-money valuation to approximately Rs 3,155 crore, up from roughly Rs 2,565 crore previously.
Jar, founded in 2021 by Nishchay AG and Misbah Ashraf, built its product around a simple behavioral hook: the app rounds up spare change from users' everyday online transactions and automatically invests it in digital gold, leaning on India's deep cultural affinity for gold as a savings vehicle to drive daily engagement. Nishchay AG serves as chief executive, while Misbah Ashraf holds the chief product officer role. The company has now raised a total of roughly $66 million across six rounds since its founding, and says it serves more than 4 crore Indians through the app.
This latest round is structured as a smaller, existing-investor top-up rather than a new priced round led by an outside firm, a financing pattern that has become more common among later-stage Indian consumer startups extending their runway between larger institutional rounds. The 23% valuation step-up on a relatively modest Rs 29 crore raise signals continued investor confidence in Jar's growth trajectory without the company needing to run a full new fundraising process.
The round lands the same week AngelLinx Intelligence's own Sunday feature ranked the most active pre-seed and seed-stage investors across India, underscoring how active the broader Indian early-stage and growth-stage fintech market has remained through September, even as later-stage rounds like Jar's increasingly come from existing backers rather than new entrants.
For founders building consumer fintech or savings products in India, Jar's approach, using a low-friction, culturally resonant savings mechanism to drive habitual daily use, remains one of the more durable growth playbooks in the market, and this round is a reminder that existing investors are willing to keep backing that model at increasing valuations. India's gold-backed savings and investment market has drawn a wave of well-funded challengers over the past several years, from digital gold apps to gold-backed lending platforms, but Jar's daily micro-savings mechanic has differentiated it by targeting habitual, low-value transactions rather than competing directly on larger one-time gold purchases. A 23% valuation step-up on an insider-only round, without a competitive outside process, is also a useful signal of how existing investors price conviction in a company between larger primary rounds.
