Definedge Securities Raises Rs 22 Crore in Pre-Series A to Scale Wealth-Tech Platform
Definedge Securities, a Pune-based fintech and brokerage startup, has raised Rs 22 crore in a pre-Series A round, bringing its total funding to Rs 30 crore since its first institutional and angel round closed in November of last year. The new round saw continued participation from existing backers Nitin Agarwal and D. Prasad alongside new investors Anant Jain and Sachin Kasera.
Definedge operates Momentify, a trading, research, education, and analytics platform aimed at retail investors, which has already crossed Rs 1,000 crore in assets under management. The company is targeting Rs 5,000 crore in AUM through the platform over the next 24 months, an ambitious roughly fivefold expansion from its current base. The fresh capital will go toward expanding technology and product infrastructure, increasing margin funding capacity, strengthening marketing and distribution, and accelerating development of artificial intelligence and automation-led product features.
The round lands in a crowded Indian retail brokerage and wealth-tech category, where established discount brokers compete alongside a growing wave of AI-native platforms promising sharper research and automated portfolio tools. Definedge's pitch leans on combining trading execution with education and analytics in a single product, a bundling strategy aimed at retail investors who might otherwise need to stitch together several separate tools. Its original angel round in November drew a notable roster of backers, including industry veterans Hemant Luthra, Ajay Srivastava, D. Prasad, Nitin Agarwal, and Madhusudan N. Sarda, several of whom returned for this extension.
The India Alternative Investment Fund and Foreign Venture Capital Investor registers, tracked daily by AngelLinx Intelligence, showed the AIF register at 2,026 as of its most recent snapshot and the FVCI register unchanged at 308, continuing a period of modest, steady growth in India's formal fund registration activity that runs alongside deals like Definedge's at the startup level.
For a pre-Series A round of this size to fund a fivefold AUM growth target, the company will need its margin funding capacity and distribution investments to convert quickly, a dynamic worth watching as the wealth-tech category in India continues to mature past its earliest discount-brokerage phase into a more feature-differentiated competitive set.
The size of this round, meaningfully smaller than the mega-rounds that dominate headline fintech coverage, reflects a broader pattern in India's brokerage and wealth-tech space, where a large number of regionally rooted platforms compete for market share against a handful of nationally dominant discount brokers, typically by layering education, research, or a specific product niche on top of core trading infrastructure rather than competing purely on pricing. Definedge's emphasis on AI and automation-led product development as a use of this specific tranche of capital suggests the company sees its differentiation increasingly tied to how intelligently it can surface research and trading signals to retail users, rather than simply offering a lower-cost execution venue.
