Arena Raises $200 Million Series B at a $3.1 Billion Valuation as Its AI Model Rankings Become a Business

Every new AI model launch now comes with a claim about where it ranks, and one company has become the place those rankings are decided. Arena, formerly known as LMArena, raised $200 million in a Series B at a $3.1 billion valuation, announced October 8, 2026.

Lightspeed Venture Partners and Khosla Ventures led the round, with Salesforce Ventures, 01 Advisors, Dell Technologies Capital, Endeavor Catalyst, a16z and Felicis taking part. The valuation is nearly double the $1.7 billion set in January, when Arena raised $150 million in a Series A.

How Arena Works

Arena began in 2023 as a research project at the University of California, Berkeley. Its platform lets people compare AI models side by side and vote on the better answer, and the votes feed public leaderboards. The company says tens of millions of people visit the site each month.

Revenue and Plans

After its Series A, Arena's annual revenue run rate was estimated at $30 million, and in June the company said it had grown to $100 million. Both figures are company statements and have not been independently verified. Reports say Arena plans to expand into measuring AI safety, and it previewed an Arena Alignment Index meant to evaluate how well models match human values.

What This Means for Founders

Arena shows how a neutral reference point can become a business: build trust with a free public tool, then sell evaluation services to the companies being measured. The tension is that a ranking company is paid by the firms it ranks, so its credibility depends on keeping that line clear.

For founders building infrastructure around AI, the lesson is that being the standard in a fast-growing category can raise a valuation quickly, but investors will ask how the revenue holds up. If you are raising a Series A or later round, show which customers pay, why they pay and how you stay independent. Weigh how a high post-money valuation will shape the next lead investor conversation.
