QuickBooks was built for main street businesses. Farmers, ranchers, and truckers need something different — and Ambrook is the company building it.
The New York-based startup announced a $30 million Series B led by Lachy Groom, with participation from Thomson Reuters Ventures, Thrive Capital, Field Ventures, Cameron Ventures, and a group of individual operators including Akshay Kothari, Tomer London, and Guillermo Rauch. Total funding now stands at $59 million.
Ambrook was founded in 2021 by Mackenzie Burnett, Dan Schlosser, and Jeff Anders. The platform provides accounting, expense tracking, and financial management software designed specifically for agriculture, where the cost structure, compliance requirements, regulatory tracking, and payment cycles are fundamentally different from urban small businesses. QuickBooks can be made to work for a cattle rancher or a vineyard, but it takes significant customization and it was not built for those workflows.
Ambrook now serves more than 8,000 customers and is expanding beyond farming into trucking, construction, and property management — sectors the company calls the "real economy." The Series B will fund that expansion alongside AI capability development and integrated payments.
The Lachy Groom lead is notable. Groom was a founding partner at Stripe and has backed a number of infrastructure-layer fintech companies. His involvement signals a belief that Ambrook is building a financial operating system for a large, underserved segment, not a niche vertical SaaS tool.
What this means for founders
The "real economy" software category is genuinely underfunded relative to its market size. Farmers, truckers, and contractors collectively represent trillions in annual economic activity and are served by software built 20 years ago for different customer profiles. If you are building vertical software for any segment of the real economy — and you have domain credibility — the Ambrook raise is evidence that sophisticated investors are paying attention to this category again.
