Why These Eight

AngelLinx Intelligence tracks new capital filings the way a lender tracks dry powder: a fund that just closed a new vehicle is a fund with fresh capital to deploy, and the filing date is the clearest public signal of when that capital became available. Over the five trading days ending September 18, 239 vehicles filed as venture capital funds, representing 26.35% of all capital-raising activity in the window by deal count but only 1.52% by dollars. That split is itself the story: venture is the most numerous fund type in the data and the smallest by capital, which is exactly the shape of the market founders are competing in. Most of the dollars in any given week sit in hedge funds, private equity and generalist institutional vehicles that never write a founder a check; the checks founders can actually get come from a much smaller, much more numerous pool of dedicated venture managers.

Of those 239 vehicles, the eight above account for $585.29M, or 36.18% of the dollar volume filed by venture funds in the window, from just 17 of 239 vehicles (7.11% of deal count). Each name was verified individually against its own publicly stated stage focus and check size, not assumed from fund size alone. That distinction matters here specifically: the single largest vehicle to file in the window, a $270M generalist fund, was excluded from this list because its stage focus could not be independently confirmed, and a similarly large AI-focused fund was excluded because its own team describes it as growth-stage, not seed. Rank by dollars filed without that check, and a list like this quietly stops being about pre-seed and seed at all.

What the Spread Tells You

The eight firms split into two real patterns. Electric Capital, Initialized Capital and MVP Ventures write the larger checks and extend into Series A when a seed bet works, which is normal for funds with $100M+ vehicles; a founder pitching them should expect a check that can lead a round and follow on. Soma Capital, Script Capital, Webb Investment Network and Burnt Island Ventures stay tighter to true seed and pre-seed mechanics, with Script Capital's $250K-$500K range and Soma's $100K-$1M range both sitting well inside classic first-check territory. Nebular sits in between, seed-first with selective pre-seed bets, backing 32 companies from a single $30M+ fund.

Sector concentration is visible too. MVP Ventures' seven separate filings in a single week, each a distinct co-investment vehicle, point to an active syndication practice around a common thesis: AI, hardware and dual-use technology, evidenced by a portfolio that includes Anduril and Stoke Space. Electric Capital's entire filing is crypto infrastructure. Burnt Island Ventures is the outlier in the best sense, the only fund on this list built around a single vertical, water technology, illustrating that a founder in a genuinely underserved niche can find a dedicated specialist rather than competing for a generalist's limited attention in that sector.

What This Means for Founders

A founder raising pre-seed or seed capital right now has a real, current target list: eight managers who filed fresh capital in the same five-day window, each with a distinct thesis and price point. The practical filter is check size against round size. A $2M pre-seed round fits Script Capital, Soma Capital or Webb Investment Network's ranges cleanly; a $5M-$8M seed extension that could credibly reach Series A is a better fit for Initialized Capital, Electric Capital or MVP Ventures. A defense, hardware or dual-use startup should look first at MVP Ventures given its portfolio pattern; a water or climate infrastructure company has a rare direct match in Burnt Island Ventures rather than a generalist climate fund with a broader, thinner mandate. Sector fit and check size, verified against a manager's own recent filings rather than a static list, remain the two variables that actually separate a warm intro from a cold one.
