AngelLinx Intelligence tracked 257 distinct biotech and life sciences tagged vehicles in Q3 2026, but most of that volume came from buyout, healthcare real estate and credit vehicles that do not write checks into private biotech companies. The seven above are the ones a biotech founder could plausibly pitch. Browse the biotech investor directory to filter the wider set by stage.

How This Ranking Was Built

Investors are ranked by new vehicles opened between July and September, with disclosed dollars breaking ties. Healthcare buyout and real estate funds were excluded because they back established businesses and real estate, not early-stage science. Some figures come from two parallel vehicles that report the same total, and in those cases the amount is counted once.

The Large Pools: EQT Healthcare Growth and Forbion

EQT Healthcare Growth filed two vehicles in July with $1.56 billion disclosed, and the fund writes equity tickets in the range of 75 million to 275 million euros, which puts it well beyond a seed or Series A conversation. Forbion, the Dutch life sciences firm, filed $605.8 million for its Growth Opportunities Fund IV and $408.3 million for Ventures Fund VIII on the same day, so a founder at the clinical stage has two Forbion vehicles to consider depending on how far along the asset is. Forbion previously closed its fourth venture fund at 360 million euros, so the new totals show how much the firm has scaled.

Early-Stage Specialists: LumaBio and Sandbox

LumaBio, the biotech vehicle of Luma Group led by Joshua Fink, closed Fund I at $410 million in September. The fund runs for 15 years, invests early alongside scientist founders, and has backed companies including Aeovian Pharmaceuticals, Altos Labs, Arsenal Biosciences and Character Biosciences. Sandbox Industries, the Chicago firm where Matthew Downs is co-CEO and managing partner, filed $79.5 million for its Clinical Ventures Fund and focuses on healthcare, insurance and clinical science, which suits founders whose product plugs into care delivery.

Crossover and Growth: 270, OrbiMed and Octagon

270 Life Sciences is the biotech arm of J.P. Morgan Life Sciences Private Capital, whose first fund closed above $500 million in 2024, and it filed four vehicles this quarter, including a second private capital fund that has not disclosed an amount. OrbiMed, the New York healthcare specialist, filed $192.0 million for a Healthcare Access Fund II. Octagon Capital, founded by Ting Jia, invests in public and private healthcare companies and typically leads at Series B, and its two Fund II vehicles total $71.7 million.

What This Means for Founders

Biotech rounds are large and slow, so the most useful thing this list does is sort investors by the stage they actually write. Preclinical founders should start with LumaBio and the venture side of Forbion, clinical-stage companies raising a Series A or later can look at Octagon, 270 and OrbiMed, and only late-stage assets with real revenue fit the EQT conversation. Before approaching any of them, prepare a clean data room and expect a long due diligence process, since scientific diligence takes months at these funds.
