Capital Filings Cross $12 Billion Across 113 Vehicles for September 28
Two related hedge fund vehicles account for more than half of everything filed on a single day, a concentration level this desk has not seen from one manager family in weeks. That single fact does more to explain September 28 than the headline number does on its own.
Filings for September 28, 2026 totaled $11.996 billion across 113 vehicles. Hedge Fund entities led by dollars, $7.126 billion or 59.40% of the day, across just 16 vehicles. Private Equity Fund filings totaled $2.636 billion (21.97%) across 37 vehicles, the largest vehicle count of the day despite ranking second by dollars. Other Investment Fund entities filed $2.032 billion (16.94%) across 30 vehicles. Venture Capital Fund filings again came in last on dollars, $202 million (1.69%) across 30 vehicles, a vehicle count tied with Other Investment Fund's for second-most on the day while carrying a fraction of the capital.
The Filer Family That Drove Nearly Half the Day
Aristeia Capital, the Greenwich, Connecticut credit and convertible-arbitrage hedge fund founded in 1997 by Robert Lynch, Anthony Frascella and Kevin Toner, filed two related vehicles, Aristeia International Ltd ($3.267 billion) and Aristeia Partners, L.P. ($3.142 billion), for a combined $6.409 billion, or 53.44% of the entire day's dollar total. The firm manages roughly $4.3 billion overall according to its own regulatory disclosures, so a same-day pair of filings totaling $6.409 billion sits above that figure, evidence that today's two vehicles carry either updated fund-level figures or additional feeder and parallel structures beyond the firm's headline AUM number, a distinction genuinely material for anyone trying to size the manager's actual footprint from filing data alone. Ares Private Equity Secondaries I, filed as matching onshore and offshore entities at $1.150 billion each, added another $2.301 billion (19.19%). Between just these two manager families, 72.63% of the day's dollars were accounted for without a single venture capital vehicle in the mix.
Where the Day's Sector Tagging Stood Out
One data point worth flagging on its own: 39 of the day's 113 filings, or 34.51%, carried an actual sector tag rather than the generic "Generalist / Unspecified" label that covers the overwhelming majority of filings on a typical day. That is a meaningfully higher tagging rate than this desk has recorded on any prior day this quarter, most of which have run in the 3% to 9% range. Whether this reflects a genuine shift in filer disclosure behavior or a one-day anomaly tied to this particular batch of filers is not yet clear, and it is worth watching on the next few daily exports before treating it as a trend.
How September 28 Compares to the Prior Single-Day Reading
The last single-day batch this desk covered before this week's Monday synthesis piece was September 25, which totaled $33.93 billion across 83 vehicles, meaning today's day carries roughly a third of that dollar total across 36% more vehicles, a lower average filing size across the board. Zero-dollar filings held at 32 of 113, or 28.32%, close to the 25-32% band this desk has recorded through most of September, evidence that administrative and placeholder filings remain a steady, unremarkable share of daily volume rather than a growing or shrinking trend on their own.
Four Venture Managers Worth Knowing
Venture capital's 1.69% dollar share against 26.55% of the day's vehicle count is the same widening gap this desk has tracked all quarter, and understanding that gap starts with the basic mechanics of how a venture capitalist actually deploys capital versus a hedge fund or buyout shop. Four of the 30 VC filers today are worth knowing by name rather than folding into that aggregate statistic, and each gets the full profile treatment below: Brad Gerstner's Altimeter Capital, the AI and enterprise software growth investor behind early bets on Snowflake and Uber; Avichal Garg's Electric Capital, the engineering-led web3 specialist; Sky Dayton, the EarthLink and Boingo Wireless founder now backing enterprise AI startups through Craft Ventures; and Nick Moran's New Stack Ventures, built specifically around funding deep tech and hardware founders outside the usual Silicon Valley pedigree.
