Air Street Capital Just Became Europe's Largest Solo GP With a $232M AI Fund. Here Is What That Means.

Nathan Benaich started Air Street Capital in 2019 with a $25 million first fund. Fund II was $121 million. Fund III filed this week at $232 million — nearly nine times the original fund and the largest solo GP raise in European venture history.

Air Street backs AI-first companies at the early stage across Europe and North America, writing checks from $500,000 to $15 million, with select growth investments up to $25 million. The fund's thesis is consistent: find the companies using AI as a fundamental part of the product architecture, not as a feature layer on top of a traditional software business.

The solo GP model is what makes this raise notable beyond the dollar amount. Most $230 million funds come with a team of partners, associates, and platform staff. Benaich runs Air Street with a lean structure that keeps decision-making fast and eliminates the consensus dynamics that slow institutional firms. LPs who backed three consecutive funds despite that structure are making a bet on the model as much as the manager.

The doubling from Fund II to Fund III in approximately three years reflects both strong returns from the earlier portfolio and a broader LP market that has decided AI-focused venture capital deserves dedicated allocation. Air Street's portfolio includes companies building in biotech AI, enterprise AI, and AI infrastructure — the categories where the strongest signal concentration is showing up in AngelLinx Intelligence data.

What this means for founders

Air Street's check range — $500K to $15M — covers most of the pre-seed to Series A journey for AI-first companies. If you are building outside the US and raising an AI round, Air Street is one of a small number of European solo GPs with the fund size to lead or co-lead a meaningful round. The fact that Fund III is freshly closed means the deployment window is now, not 18 months from now.
