$8.94 Billion Was Filed Yesterday. Only $88.6 Million of It Is Looking for Startups.

On August 10, 2026, total capital filings tracked by AngelLinx Intelligence came in at $8.94 billion.

Venture capital's share of that: $88.6 million, across 34 funds.

That is under 1 percent of the day's total institutional capital formation.

The rest — more than $8.85 billion — moved through private equity, real estate, structured credit, secondaries vehicles, and other fund types that have no interest in early-stage startups. StepStone's VC Secondaries Fund VII alone filed $1.307 billion that day. Two Valeas Capital Partners vehicles (private equity) filed a combined $760 million. These are not competitors for the same capital — they are entirely separate markets operating in parallel.

The $88.6 million in VC filings spread across 34 funds averages $2.6 million per fund. Most of that average is driven by a small number of larger filings — AV AI Fund LP at $21.5 million, several SPVs in the $5 million to $11 million range. The median fund that filed on August 10 was raising roughly $1 million to $3 million. Those are first-check vehicles, writing $150,000 to $500,000 per deal.

This is the market founders are actually operating in. Not the $8.94 billion. Not even the $88.6 million spread across all 34 funds. The capital relevant to any specific founder is the intersection of: funds actively deploying, in the right stage, in the right sector, within the first 18 months of their fund cycle.

What this means for founders

The single most useful thing this data does is calibrate expectations. The capital market feels enormous from the outside. From the inside — at the seed stage, in a specific sector — the relevant pool is a small fraction of a small fraction. That is not a reason to be pessimistic. It is a reason to be precise. The founders who understand that VC is under 1 percent of total capital formation, that most VC funds are under $5 million, and that the right 10 investors matter more than 200 cold emails are the ones who close rounds faster.
